Mezzanine Floor Removal and Buy-Back

A mezzanine is a structure, not a shelf, and it comes down in a controlled sequence. Done properly it is also one of the more valuable things in a warehouse, because the steelwork resells if it is dismantled rather than cut out.

What we buy

  • Structural mezzanine steelwork: columns, main beams, joists
  • Decking — chipboard, steel or mesh
  • Staircases, handrail, kickplates, pallet gates and loading gates
  • Multi-tier and integrated racking-supported mezzanines

What we don't buy

  • Fire-rated ceilings and cladding, which are usually treated as waste rather than resale
  • Structures we cannot dismantle safely without temporary works we are not asked to design

We would rather tell you no on the phone than waste your week. If it isn't for us, we will usually point you at what is.

What the price depends on

Overall floor area and clear height
Whether the frame is bolted (dismantles and resells) or largely welded (often scrap)
Condition of decking — water-damaged chipboard has little value
Whether staircases, gates and handrail come with it
Whether the original drawings and loading data still exist

How the job runs

  1. 1. Measure and assess

Area, height, deck type, column grid and connection type — bolted or welded. This drives both the value and the method.

  2. 2. Offer and method

Written offer plus a dismantling sequence and RAMS covering edge protection, exclusion zones and lifting.

  3. 3. Controlled dismantle

Handrail and decking off, then joists, then main beams, then columns. Working platforms and harnesses where needed — never free climbing.

  4. 4. Load, pay and clear

Steel bundled and loaded, fixings removed, floor left safe, payment on collection.

Safety, compliance and paperwork

  • Dismantling is carried out by crews trained under the SEIRS (Storage Equipment Installers Registration Scheme) framework.
  • A risk assessment and method statement (RAMS) is produced for the site before work starts, and shared with your responsible person.
  • We work to PUWER and Work at Height requirements, using MEWPs or towers rather than climbing racking.
  • Any genuinely scrap material leaves under a waste transfer note so your duty of care under the Environmental Protection Act is documented.
  • The site is swept and handed back clear — no beams left in a corner for your landlord to find.
  • Where the mezzanine forms part of the building's fire strategy or has been through building control, tell us — we will not remove anything that changes the compliance of a live building without written instruction from you.

Mezzanine Floor Removal FAQs

Do you pay for mezzanine floors?

Usually yes, if the steel is bolted and in reusable condition. Welded or heavily corroded structures move towards scrap value.

Do I need permission to remove a mezzanine?

If you lease the unit, check your lease and speak to the landlord. Where the mezzanine went through building control, the removal may need documenting too. Ask us and we will tell you what we typically see.

Can you remove the decking but leave the steel?

Yes, though a part removal changes the value — we price whichever scope you actually want.
